Welcome to Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham

QEHS

Queen Elizabeth the First established a grammar school in Hexham in 1599. Four hundred years later, Queen Elizabeth High School is a flourishing community high school, performing arts college and science college, with 1350 students of whom 460 are in the sixth form.

The governors of Hexham Middle School and Queen Elizabeth High School are consulting on a proposed federation of the two schools. Please click here for further details

This website contains information, including our recent Ofsted report (PDF), news and resources for students, parents, staff and the wider community. In addition to our performing arts status we are a science college. Our Art and Design students regularly exhibit their work in the local community. The school also has its own walled garden which is the home of an exciting horticulture course.

Queen Elizabeth High School's own restaurant and conference centre, The Charter, is open for bookings from the business community and the people of Tynedale.  Enquiries and bookings can be made on-line by following the links. Other community facilities and community education is also available to the public. Places on courses can be booked by completing and sending the attached enrolment form.

The school is part of the Tynedale Virtual College, a collaboration between the four high schools in the Tyne Valley and Northumberland College.  The TVC seeks to provide vocational learning across the area.

We are a successful and popular school and strive to achieve excellence in everything we do.  If you can't find the information you need on this site, or wish to visit us in person, then please contact us.
