Year 10 Partnership Music and Dance Project
Blackfriars - A Partnership Music and Dance Project On 27th March there was a spectacular performance of 'Blackfriars' in the Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham, involving nearly 700 students from QEHS, the three middle schools and the twelve first school that together make up the Hexham Partnership of Schools. 'Blackfriars' is a piece for two choirs, ten piece brass ensemble and percussion, with words by Michael Clark and music by Len Young.

Up to 1,000 spectators attended during the afternoon and evening performances as choirs and soloists from QEHS and the middle schools celebrated key events at Blackfriars in the centre of Newcastle from 1230 to the present day. Interpretive dancing, choreographed by Lucy Hudson, was performed by children from the first schools and added visual impact came from the huge overhead screen showing historic scenes from Newcastle's past.

Congratulations to Len Young, Head of Music at QEHS, for composing and co-ordinating this challenging production, and to all who participated in this memorable experience.
