QEHS - High Performing Specialist School
As a result of receiving an outstanding grade from Ofsted, QEHS has been designated a High Performing Specialist School by the DfES. This gives us the opportunity to apply for a second specialism from a DfES list. In October 2007 we submitted our proposal to become a specialist science college in addition to our existing performing arts status.

We expect a final decision in December with additional funding beginning in April 2008.

Our proposal includes:

triple award science available at GCSE from September 2008 for every student achieving Level 6 at Key Stage 3;
a new sixth form course in applied science;
improved facilities in the Science Department;
more support staff to work with teachers to improve standards;
closer working with middle schools;
new opportunities for all students such as the Crest Awards, science days and conferences;
the ability to support developments in other parts of the curriculum such as engineering, maths, physical education and health and social care.

This is a very exciting development providing an excellent sense of balance in the curriculum and the ethos of the school. QEHS looks forward to bringing the cultures of science and arts together in a new stage of our development.
