Matthew Wells returns to QEHS

Matthew Wells, ex-QEHS student and Olympic bronze medalist in the double sculls rowing event, came into school in September to speak in assembly to Year 10 students. He talked about his training regime in the four years leading up to the Olympics, about his experience in Beijing and about his return to Heathrow and the reception given to the Olympic medalists. He brought in his Olympic medal which he passed around the students.

Matt then talked to Year 10 and Year 12 students who are studying GCSE and A level in PE. He discussed and answered questions about training schedules and about the commitment required to reach his level. After years of training for 5½ hours a day, 6½ days a week, he is having a short break before starting to prepare for the 2012 London Olympics.  Everyone enjoyed his talks and there was quite a buzz around school following his visit.
