Whilst at QEHS I studied GCSE and A Level Drama and was part of the Youth Theatre, all of which helped me to further my love for acting. The year 2000 took me to Seattle for five weeks with two others from QEHS and 25 other actors from around the world to be part of the 'British American Youth Theatre'. We spent 3 1/2 weeks rehearsing a production of W. H. Auden's 'A Rake’s Progress' and the final time touring the production up to Idaho and back around Seattle. It was an amazing experience which I will never forget. Each performance was in a different venue, indoors and outdoors, which pushed us to adapt every day. I met and shared experiences with people I am still in contact with now. Returning to England I took a year out to audition for Drama Schools before accepting a place at Rose Bruford in London. I spent 3 years studying acting and got to work with great practitioners which taught me a lot. In the first year it's all about learning new skills to use with text, voice and movement - the building blocks of acting. The second year is about putting those skills into practice. The final year you go from show to show developing your skills and finally performing to a paying audience. You also practise Professional Prep, working with West End casting directors to develop TV and screen acting as well as audition experience. You end the year with a showcase made up of an audience of directors, casting directors and producers from theatre, TV and film in order to introduce you as a new professional actor. Since graduating in 2004 I have been working at building a foundation as a professional actor, performing in shows such as - 'Cosi' at the Bridewell Theatre, 'Break time' at the Pleasance Theatre (part of the Royal Court New Writers’ Festival) and 'The House' ,'The Trial Of Helen Of Troy' and 'Antigone' all performed at the Battersea Arts Centre. I have also worked on voice overs and film. The acting industry is a hard one to crack and along with all the other thousands of actors in London I am having to work three jobs (one of which is teaching voice work in a drama school) in order to survive whilst starting out on my career. Even with three jobs I still find myself regularly on the phone to my parents, sister and anyone who will listen asking for financial help! It's hard, but I feel passionate and determined to make a full time career out of it.
