A2 English Language (WJEC – LG3 & 4) - Year 13

Like AS, English Language is at A2 level is taught in two broad units, one exam and the other coursework. The examined unit (LG4) comprises 60% of marks, and looks at ‘written language through time’ and ‘analysis of spoken language’, each with one compulsory question inviting students to analyse unseen set texts. LG4 carries 120UMS. Coursework (LG2) at 40% comprises an open language investigation, together with a written piece of functional non-fiction language, concentrating upon a specific purpose and audience. LG3 carries 80UMS.
A2 language study is much deeper than at AS, and there is an expectation of a deeper theoretical grounding, and a firmer understanding of grammar.
Every half term will generate an assessed piece of writing.
The course is dynamic, and follows the ever changing trends of a living and organic language, therefore the topics outlined below are subject to modification though with the core elements needed for close language study remaining.
