QEHS Rowing Club

About The Club

The Rowing Club has consistently been one of the school's most successful sporting clubs and has been established for over 30 years. During this time we have achieved huge success at both National and International levels. In the recent past the club has produced 13 International athletes, the most notable being the Wells brothers. The older of the two, Matthew, was the Great Britain single sculler at the Olympics in Sydney, won a Bronze medal in Beijing in a double scull and both Matt and brother Pete competed in the Athens Olympics.

In recent years Chris Jacklin won international honours at the Coupe de la Jeunesse. In 2010 Steph Charlton, Katrine Hardy and Gina Lamb joined Catherine Gammage from Talkin Tarn Rowing Club to form a coxless four which was chosen to represent England at the Home Countries International Regatta. During the Winter season we attend local Heads (timed long distance races) and in Spring/Summer we go to many local regattas (side by side sprints). We also go to National Schools Regatta in May and British Championships in July which are usually held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. We also attend events at Strathclyde Park, Glasgow and in York. The club also has a strong presence in representing the North at Junior Inter-Regional Championships which are also held in Nottingham.

Training

The Rowing Club train on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10am throughout the year. During the Spring, Summer and Autumn there are also water sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. During school holidays the Monday and Wednesday sessions take place at 10am. There is also a room within school which is used for on-land training such as ergos, weights and core stability work. Exercise equipment is also used during the winter months when it is too dark to row after school. New members are always welcome and if you'd like to get involved, please email Mrs Higgins direct ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
