As a school with science specialism, QEHS offers a range of science courses at GCSE, from Single Award to Triple Award. The department has a track record for innovation. We were a 21st Century Science (C21S) pilot school, part of the Learning Skills in Science (LSS) pilot, as well as offering the Advancing Physics A level course and the Salter's Chemistry 'A' level course as well as an increasingly popular Applied AS/A2 course.
Science specialism has allowed us to work with science and technology organisations to run a variety of events from national lecture tours to a Year 11 STEM careers day. We have worked with partner schools on number of projects, including enquiry based learning. We have a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in the department who is able to work with students to improve their progress.
Science is taught in specialist biology, chemistry and physics laboratories, many of which have been refurbished and upgraded in recent years. There is also a dedicated computer room to support science teaching, which is used heavily in the A level physics course. Most laboratories are equipped with multimedia equipment.
