🏃♂️ QEHS XC report 🏃♂️
QEHS runners competed in round 1 of the ESAA Schools’ Cup cross country this week. All four of our teams qualified to run at the regional finals which is a great achievement. It is amazing to see the strength and depth in running we currently have in school.
This is a team event where the key tactic is to get four runners to have the lowest combined finishing position total. It is often the fourth runner who is the key to team success.
The IG’s race was won by Martha C. She ran away from the field with a dominant display. She was backed up well by Chloe SW 9th and Sophia S 18th. It is your fourth runner that is key. Kirstie A ditched her cyclocross bike for this race, and put in a brilliant performance to finish 21st. The girls qualified 2nd behind Whitley Bay HS. Connie R and Annabelle M ran strongly to complete our six runners.
In the IB race, QEHS runners put in another stellar performance. Great packing saw Ossie D 4th, Lloyd V 5th, Monty C 7th and Billy M 11th. This gave the boys an impressive team total of 27. They were 35 points ahead of King Edward’s Morpeth. Charlie M 19th and Ned M 21st capped off a dominant display. This team will be strong at the regional finals.
The Senior girls continued the QEHS success. Eleanor D continued her impressive track form to come 3rd. Amelia S showed she is getting stronger with an impressive 5th. They were backed up brilliantly by Beth N 12th and Maeve HD in 16th.
Their team total saw them finishing an excellent 2nd place. Hester A and Winnie L ran strongly to complete the team for QEHS.
The final race of the day was the SB. We know that they are our strongest team in school. There are a number of excellent runners who have not made this squad of 6. At the finish line all six of our runners finished in the top 10 places. George H finished an impressive 2nd only losing in the final sprint finish. The other boys packed well: Jamie L 4th, Arthur D 6th, Morgan D 7th, Arthur D 8th and Adam B 10th. This was a very dominant display. The team total was an impressive 20! They were 16 places ahead of second place.
It was a real privilege to take these runners away. It is brilliant to have all four teams qualify. It was not too long ago when we were pleased to have one team qualify! Mr Gaines is really excited to see how these teams perform at the regional championships in November. We have a lot of xc competitions happening over the next few weeks. We look forward to hearing about more impressive performances!
Respect. Engage. Aspire.
