The Y10 cricketers were excellent again last night in the County Cup Final, beating Whitley Bay with 10 balls to spare!
It was a very close game with a nail-biting finish, but we managed to chase down the target of 128 to win.
It was a tough start again, with Whitley Bay having an opening stand of 52 before we took our first wicket, Joseph B and Joe M combining well to take a stumping. From then on, we did well to restrict them to 127 from their 20 overs. Wickets coming from Will C, Robbie S and Dan C.
Bowling figures;
Joseph B – 4 overs for 22 runs and 1 wicket.
Dan C – 4 overs for 26 runs and 1 wicket.
Morty C – 4 overs for 25 runs.
Robbie S – 3 overs for 17 runs and 1 wicket.
Sam B – 3 overs for 17 runs.
Will C – 2 overs for 15 runs and 1 wicket.
In the run chase, after a great opening partnership of 62 between Will C and Morty C we lost a few quick wickets before recovering a bit thanks to Joseph B. With 18 balls left in the game and 3 wickets lost we needed 11 to win. Robbie S hit the winning runs with 10 balls spare!
Batting Scores
Will C – 63
Joseph B – 23
Morty C – 9
Dan C – 8
Joshua H – 6 not out
Robbie S – 5 not out
A great team performance all round in the field and with the ball and bat to secure a famous victory. It is very unusual for the cup to not be won by a private school so to win a competition with 3 private schools in is a massive achievement. Well done QEHS and all who played in the final and all the other rounds.
