QEHS rowers raced at the prestigious Rutherford head on Saturday in difficult conditions. Here is the captains report from Dennis:
On Saturday, QEHS rowers headed to Newburn for the last on-the-water race of the year, Rutherford head. This competition is only for pupils in Y11 and above.
In the morning, QE had 5 crews racing in the following categories: wJ18 8+, oJ18 4x-, o 4+, o 4x- and a o 4x- composite with Hexham. All the teams gave the Tyne a solid go. Our best performance came in the afternoon when the oJ18 8+ picked up a 3rd place, this was backed up by the w 4x- with a strong performance in very, very wet conditions.
Overall the QEHS crews performed well at this premier Northern head race. Rutherford has a lot of high pedigree crews traveling from around the country to race. Some typical Rutherford conditions gave a baptism to those who have not raced in torrential afternoon rain.
The next competition for QEHS rowers will be the British Indoor Rowing competition being held in Birmingham. Good luck to all QEHS rowers attending this event.
