Queen Elizabeth High School capped off a remarkable season in style, securing a historic treble with an impressive victory over Framwellgate Moor in the Tyneside Senior Schools Cup Final.
Already crowned champions of both the Chronicle Cup and the Northumberland Football League, QEHS entered the final full of confidence—and they wasted no time in asserting their dominance. The lads started at a relentless pace and nearly broke the deadlock early on when Fionn S showed great awareness to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper, only to see his effort drift agonisingly wide of the post.
However, he was not to be denied for long. Moments later, Fionn reacted quickest to a bouncing ball, showing sharp instinct to head past the stranded goalkeeper and give QEHS a deserved lead.
QEHS continued to dominate proceedings throughout the first half, striking the crossbar three times in a spell of sustained pressure that kept Framwellgate Moor on the back foot. Their persistence paid off again before the break, when Dan C demonstrated outstanding composure in a one-on-one situation, calmly rounding the goalkeeper to double the lead and cap off a superb first-half performance.
The second half saw Framwellgate Moor attempt to mount a comeback, applying sustained pressure in the early stages. However, QEHS’s defence stood firm, showing resilience and organisation to withstand the challenge.
The decisive third goal perfectly summed up the team’s determination and work ethic. After Jamie R had brilliantly cleared the ball off his own goal line to preserve the clean sheet, QEHS launched a swift counter-attack. Jamie continued his run upfield, displaying incredible desire to get forward, before finishing from close range to complete the scoring and seal an outstanding 3–0 victory.
A special mention must go to the midfield trio of Leo, James, and Matty, who delivered an exceptional performance. Their relentless pressing, energy, and ability to break up play provided a solid shield for the defence and allowed QEHS to control the game throughout.
This victory not only secured the Tyneside Senior Schools Cup but also completed an unforgettable treble—an incredible achievement that highlights the quality, teamwork, and determination of this QEHS side.
This success rounds off what has been a truly outstanding season for QEHS, with every player contributing to a year that will be remembered for a long time. Congratulations to all involved for their commitment, effort, and teamwork throughout the campaign. A special mention must also go to those players in Year 11 and Year 13 who now move on—thank you for your significant contribution to school sport and we wish you the very best of luck in your next chapter.
