The sections below contain resources and instructions for students who are working at home.
Departments have used a variety of methods to upload online resources. We have created a crib sheet that lists all online learning platforms used by each department (broken down by year group), how to access each platform, and who to contact if you are having any issues accessing the online learning.
Most of the online platforms can be accessed via links on our Students page.
Please note that Moodle is also available as an app for mobile devices/tablets. When opening the app for the first time, you will need the web address of our Moodle site to access it on the app: https://www.qehs.net/moodle2/.
If you need help accessing feedback from teachers on Moodle, please see Online Learning: How to Access Feedback for step-by-step instructions.
Applied Science
Unit 1
Unit 1 is the examined content. These exams will be sat by all Year 12 students and selected Year 13 students.
Year 12 students have already been issued with paper copies of a revision guide (produced in house), and three different past papers for each subject (with mark scheme).
These will also be posted on Moodle for students to access at home. You should aim to complete all three past papers and the revision guide.
The teachers will also put lesson material onto Moodle and may additionally email material on a lesson by lesson basis. Year 12 students will be contacted by Mr Brook abrook@qehs.net, Mr Vasey ivasey@qehs.net, and Mr Manns amanns@qehs.net using the student’s QEHS email account unless students provide them with an alternative address.
Year 12s should also sign up to the Seneca class (code 8lzg1pwj1q) where the relevant material has been assigned to them. This will take 5-7 hours to complete. Please note that although Seneca will help them recap the majority of the course it does not provide complete coverage and should not be the only resource used for revision.
Unit 2
Unit 2 is Year 12 controlled assessment. There will be no material for this hosted on Moodle.
The deadline for assignment D will remain 01/04/20. If you are hospitalised as a result of the coronavirus please obtain a doctor’s note if you wish to ask for an extension. Extensions will not be granted in the case of self-isolation. Contact Mr Brook abrook@qehs.net and Mrs Fraser rfraser@qehs.net if you have any queries about Unit 2.
Biology
Year 12 students will receive an email from their teachers to guide them in what they should be doing in each lesson that they should be in Biology.
Teachers will be setting specific lessons and sharing PowerPoints/resources. There are also revision resources and exam practice on Moodle. Seneca and Kerboodle will be used by teachers to check student understanding.

Design & Technology: Product Design
Students have revision lists, text books, maths guide and topic guide ahead of their mock exam. They should continue to revise.
Student will be continuing with their coursework for the duration of the closure. All students have copies of the individual lessons that they have saved on to their memory sticks.
The lessons are also on OneDrive which has been shared with the individual students too.
Other resources to help with the completion of the coursework are available on OneDrive. This includes two exemplar pieces of coursework, a coursework guide and a list of the original published deadlines.
Students need to have all the research and investigation completed for Deadline: 3rd April 2020.
Students should have completed writing the specification and design brief during week commencing 27 April.
Students should have produced at least 6 design ideas explored in detail between the 5th and 15 May. The students have been given hard copies of the A3 design idea sheets to work on along with an A3 folder to transport their design work.
Students have been told to communicate with their teacher (Mr Wilde) via email as this is normal practice and allows them to receive feedback more immediately.
Drama
Productions to watch
We are encouraging our drama students to watch as much theatre as possible. Here are some suggestions to get you started!
Gecko Theatre YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/GeckoTheatreCo
(Full productions (Institute is particularly good – online from 29th April), behind the scenes clips, videos about the devising process)
RSC YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/theRSC
(Full productions being updated weekly, along with behind the scenes videos)
The Globe YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ShakespearesGlobe
(Full productions, clips of scenes, behind the scenes)
Push Physical Theatre Company YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/PUSHstaff
No full productions but lots of short clips of rehearsals, trailers and snippets of shows – really amazing physicality and imagination!
Year 12 Drama A Level – week by week guide for at home learning:
The following guide and resources can be found on Moodle; Year 12 drama.
Week 1 / 2: Complete the Theatre evaluation booklet based on Frankenstein production in as much detail as possible.
Week 2 / 3: Read the guide – how to revise theatre evaluation and look at the PowerPoints on writing theatre evaluation notes, and A Level Theatre evaluation prep.
- Read the PowerPoint – how to do your notes, and start writing your 500 words. There is a guide in the back of the theatre evaluation booklet on this too.
- Read any reviews you can find on Frankenstein and highlight key evaluative quotes about the production details.
- Going forward: MONOLOGUE – Try to choose which monologue you would like to do.
Start to complete the booklet in the monologue folder. There are plenty of tasks in there to keep you going for a while.
Best of luck!
My email is on Moodle at the bottom of the guide for you to ask questions or send in work for feedback.
NOTE – If you feel like you have not seen enough of Frankenstein, there are other websites providing free live theatre productions. Email me if you would rather compete the theatre evaluation on a different production, or for tips on where to find these.
Economics
Year 12 students all have access to Moodle. Mr Keay has uploaded all the resources needed to keep them going until Easter.
Most students already have paper copies of resources (except those who have been absent). Mr Keay will continue to add further resources.
There will be regular group and individual email contact.

Submission of Work
Year 12 English Literature Remote Learning – Guidance
You should all be preparing for your mock exams. You have the relevant details of themes etc. to revise.
- You should use your time to read the ‘How to revise for Year 12 mock exam’ – this is located in the folder.
- In the light of this: carry out advice about preparing for your mock – e.g. how to learn quotations etc, learning AO3 and AO5 etc
- Then prepare model answers/planning grids for how you would go about this, so in short, for WH/Poetry – learn ‘perfect’ answers for the themes you have been asked to revise
- For Othello – prepare all your ideas for an extract Q relating to the themes/ideas you have been given and learn AO2, AO3, AO4, AO5 that correspond – you have all the booklets/information
THIS IS YOUR PRIORITY – if you want to check out ideas/get planning grids checked by your teachers – that’s fine, email them and they will give you feedback.
Please be aware that you must not ‘write’ an essay for WH/poetry that you are being given in the mock – you can submit a detailed plan – that’s fine.
Do your own research for critical interpretations and context
If you want to practice essay techniques, you can also complete tasks on other themes/ideas and we will be able to give you model responses. This is to deepen your understanding of the texts and also to see if your essay style is OK.
There is a OneDrive folder (see link at top of section) set up so that you can get fortnightly guidance about what tasks to do and suggestions. This will be regularly updated, so please check it out regularly.
Above all:
- Know your texts well
- Know HOW to answer the texts
Also, we recommend that you watch any decent film version of Wuthering Heights (1992 version is closer to the story and covers both generations. Just excuse dodgy ghost child at the end!). The 1995 film version of Othello with Laurence Fishburne and Kenneth Branagh is also good. Try to view an RSC version online if you can too.

History
The History department have created class groups using Microsoft Teams for each of the Year 12 classes. This will allow students to stay in contact with one another and their class teachers. Students have also been given copies of the booklets needed in the short term, as well as the teaching tasks they will need.
Within these groups staff have provided teaching materials for both the British and American sides of the course. Students are able to access copies of the booklets they have already used/will need moving forward, teaching tasks and revision materials for the course so far.
If students have any questions for their teacher or each other then they can submit these using this class group forum. Staff will regularly update the materials and will make students aware of when this has taken place. Staff can also be contacted via their staff email addresses and we would encourage students to do so if they have any queries whatsoever.
Students can submit any practice questions to staff via their staff email address.
Staff will also now be providing live ‘lessons’ through Teams during the last half term before the summer. This will allow the department to support the students through the Year 12 assessments that are taking place and to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the learning they have completed at home. All lessons will be recorded and will only be using the audio function with PowerPoints being shared via the share screen function.
