Kenya Update – Days 4 to 7
Day 4 – It was Day 2 at Eileen Ngochoch Primary School, and everyone got stuck back into school life. We helped in English, maths, science and social studies lessons, and also played rugby and netball. The rules were a little relaxed — and we politely lost both games!
Meanwhile, Isla, Ariel, Martha, Grace and Daisy worked hard in the kitchen preparing and serving lunch for all the learners.
Day 5 – Another busy day at Eileen Ngochoch! Today we helped lead science experiments, bracelet making, chalk drawing, rounders and English lessons. We also supported classes in maths, science, music, agriculture and personal hygiene. Some of the boys got involved in tie-dyeing T-shirts using natural colours from turmeric, leaves and flowers.
Rhys, George, Will, Imogen and Evie took charge in the kitchen today, preparing and serving lunch for the learners. Tile work is also moving along well — we’re now over halfway finished and have started preparing the laid tiles for grouting as we push for completion on Friday morning.
Day 6 – Our penultimate day at Eileen Ngochoch! Today, Katie, Bella, Patrick, Aston and Ferdi took over the kitchen, cooking ugali, vegetables and beans for lunch — with Aston especially proud of his grated carrots!
Lessons today included glitter tattoos, science, creative art, social studies, English and helping out with agriculture. Ewan and Noah also delivered a lesson on national sports with support from Grace and Isla. The tiling project continued and is now around 90% complete.
In the afternoon, the boys headed out for football practice ahead of Friday’s big QEHS vs Eileen Ngochoch match, where they quickly realised just how good the learners’ dribbling skills are!
Day 7 – What an incredible five days we’ve had at Eileen Ngochoch. From helping in lessons to leading our own classes and sports sessions, every day brought new experiences and challenges. We transformed a concrete floor into a fully tiled Grade 9 classroom and, over the week, turned new names into real friendships and connections.
Saying goodbye was very emotional after all the kindness and love shown to us by the learners and staff. It’s an experience all 23 of us will never forget!
Respect. Engage. Aspire.
