After a summer break the QEHS rowers have returned to competition. Our first event was back on the river Tyne. New club captain James has written this report on the day:
Last weekend, QE rowers took part in the first head race of the season: the Tyne single scullers. What’s usually a gentle start to the head season, with mild conditions and some great showings in small boats, instead became a lesson in just how awful racing conditions can get; and a showcase of just how well QE rowers can perform despite them. Notable performances came from Morty C (Y12) who came 2nd in both the open b2 single and the J18 single. Markus S (Y12) who put in a fantastic performance in the harsh conditions as well as Alex H (Y13). The wins of the day came from Astrid C (Y13) in the women’s J18 b2 single, Isla M (Y11) in the women’s J16 b1 single. Annabell M and Sophia S (Y10) won the Women’s J15 Double. Finally, Alexis and Mack (Y13) won the open J18 pair. With Theo P (Y10) having a swim after crossing the finish line in his single. Overall, an extremely strong start to the season, looking forward to the next event; Tees Head.
We are looking forward to teaching our new Y9 pupils to learn to row. Emails will be sent out to parents explaining dates of the sessions and where to attend.
