4 January Covid-19 Testing: Request for Volunteers

On return in January, we have been asked to test consenting pupils once in school. As I am sure you will appreciate, the logistics of testing a large number of pupils are challenging. We would once again welcome support from volunteers to help run the testing site and enable us to test the pupils as quickly as possible. There are

QEHS becomes an ESU Oracy Affiliate School

QEHS has been recognised as an ESU Oracy Affiliate School because of our participation in the ESU Mace Debating competition and partnership work with the English Speaking Union. In January, Sixth Form debaters, Kara Goldsmith and Euan Davis, will participate in the second round of the Mace competition when they will debate whether MPs should receive payment for additional work.

Consultation

The Trustees of Hadrian Learning Trust have agreed to consult on a proposal to change the admission arrangements for Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School from September 2023.  For full details and a link to respond to the consultation, please see the letter and proposed admissions policy here (PDF). 

Y12 Northumbria University Supported Entry

Northumbria University are pleased to announce applications are now open for NU Entry, a supported entry scheme for students in year 12. NU Entry is a two-year scheme designed to support students on their journey to university. The first year of the programme focusses on supporting exploration of university choices, development of key skills for undergraduate study and application preparation.

Face Coverings: Reminder

Please remember that students should be wearing face masks in communal areas. Please bring your own mask into school. Students should also continue to take lateral flow tests twice a week.

Senior Maths Challenge Results

Congratulations to our students who took part in this year’s Senior Maths Challenge. The results are excellent! Everyone who took part gained an award: Kell Johnston, May Thomas, Tom Barrett and Ben Norfolk from Year 13 and Hew Hawley from Year 12 achieved a Gold award and an automatic entry to the Senior Kangaroo challenge.
